Amidst the continually rising cost of living, Gordon Neighbourhood House (GNH) is playing a crucial role in supporting local residents by providing accessible and healthy meal options.

Through their Food Justice programming, this non-profitcul offers a range of initiatives aimed at delivering practical, nutritious, and culturally appropriate foods to residents from the West End and beyond.

With a diverse array of nine programs currently available, GNH provides not only meals but also access to community kitchens and gardens, as well as education in Indigenous food systems.

The programs are designed to be inclusive, ensuring accessibility for all. Most programs are free of charge, requiring only a self-identified need for participation. Exceptions include programs tailored to the specific nutritional requirements and physical abilities of children, seniors and people with disabilities.

The variety of programs includes community lunches and suppers, community cooking classes, deliverable meals for folks with mobility challenges and seniors, and breakfast options for children.

The Food Justice programs are done with the aim of bringing community together, by sharing cultural insights, food knowledge, and the experience of preparing and enjoying meals collectively.

This philosophy also underscores the importance of ecological consciousness, highlighting the potential impact of our food choices on the environment. To this end, many ingredients are sourced from local farms and businesses, while the practices of minimal packaging and composting are diligently followed.

This collaborative effort not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters a sense of community and environmental awareness that resonates beyond the dinner table.
