The Roedde House Classical Series will kick off the new year with new talent. As part of their young artist mentorship initiative they host a yearly Rising Stars concert, and this year welcome the very talented Artemisia Duo, with Emily Richardson (flute), and Susan Xia (piano). Both recent graduates of UBC, they will perform a water-themed program inspired by rain and the ocean and featuring repertoire by Debussy, Fauré, Mouquet, Barber, Piazzolla, and Ian Clarke.

“Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast” according to 17th century poet William Congreve, and few musical styles do so as completely as classical guitar. Starting on Wednesday November 6, come to Barclay Manor to enjoy a repertoire of classical guitar played by Cuneyt Tirmandi. Cuneyt studied classical guitar at the Mount Royal Conservatory in Calgary and under renowned Argentinian guitarist Analia Rego in Buenos Aires. Wednesday’s Musical Mornings will now soothe your soul and calm your mind.

JAZZ ON THE BAY
Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday the Sylvia Hotel (1154 Gilford) presents an evening of live jazz in their lounge overlooking English Bay.
The lineup for January includes:
Wednesdays (8 - 10 p.m.): acoustic tunes with Bruce Coughlin (Jan. 8); jazz with a twist with Wanda Nowicki (Jan. 15); folk and pop with Jana Seale (Jan. 22); and jazz with the Doe Bender Trio (Jan. 29).
Thursdays (8 - 10 p.m.): contemporary jazz with the Allegro Duo (Jan. 2); classic harmonies with The Hot Mammas (Jan. 9); jazz and blues with the Weaver/Werth Band (Jan. 16); jazzy swing and rock with Blue Dirt Girl (Jan. 23); and bebop jazz with West Coast Charisma (Jan. 30).
Sundays (7 - 9 p.m.): jazz pop with Blue Bird Day (Jan. 5); jazz croonin’ with Bobby Bacchus (Jan. 12); funky jazz with Gabriel Hasselbach (Jan. 19); and funk jazz fusion with Noriko Jazz (Jan. 26).
SAMBA FUSION
Fridays & Saturdays at Rio Brazilian Steakhouse (1122 Denman). Samba Fusion is a Vancouver-based Dance Company, whose roots are based in Brazilian Samba, fused with numerous dance styles, music and rhythms. This Multicultural Dance Group performs several styles of dance fusion including: Brazilian Samba, Forró, Samba Reggae, Afro- Brazilian, Hip Hop, African, Polynesian and Burlesque.
