ESCUTCHEONS PROPER” BY BROOKLYN FINK

1157 Pendrell
Every Friday through November
1 - 5 p.m.
Free
"Escutcheons Proper" is a solo exhibition by visual artist Brooklyn Fink at The Mole Gallery, a community gallery in the historic Mole Hill block.
A series of “cultural algorithms”, these mixed media paintings apply the visual language of heraldry to explore contemporary notions of truth, justice, beauty, and the love of the home, expressed in “coats” or layers of flat opaque paint.
Brooklyn Fink is a Canadian artist who has exhibited & lectured in Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montréal. She is currently enrolled in a pre-medicine programme of UBC’s School of Kinesiology.
PUBLIC FLU CLINICS
Wednesday, Nov. 7
1 - 4 p.m.
West End Community Centre / Bidwell Room
Free / Drop-In Only
Getting a flu shot is the best way to protect yourself against the flu and ensure you don’t pass on the virus to others. And being healthy doesn’t make you immune to the flu. In fact, every year 5 - 20% of adults get the flu — a much larger percentage than people in high-risk groups such as young children, the elderly and individuals with weakened immune systems. And the flu shot is free!
PHILOSOPHER’S CAFE
When Robots Do All The Work
Thursday, Nov. 8
7 p.m.
Joe Fortes Library
Free. No Registration Required.
Thinking the unthinkable, imagining the impossible, and discussing the improbable. That’s the theme of SFU’s Philosophers’ Café series of informal public discussions in the heart of our communities. Since 1998, this award-winning program has engaged the interests of scholars, seniors, students, philosophers, and non-philosophers through stimulating dialogue and the passionate exchange of ideas. The November Café at Joe Fortes will address the question of how we will generate our incomes if robots are doing all the work. Mark Battersby will lead the conversation.
